The Bow Open is the Nunnery Gallery's annual showcase of Bow Arts artists, presenting exciting and recent artwork from east London's artists and makers.

Part of a special programme to celebrate Bow Arts' 25th anniversary, gal-dem will host events throughout the exhibition, including an opening party inviting the public to a night of poetry, music and celebration across the Nunnery Gallery and outdoor courtyard space.

Curator, producer and illustrator – and gal-dem founding member – Leyla Reynolds will select works from Bow Arts’ near 500 artist community for the exhibition, with a call for works that respond to the theme of “Pushback: resist, regroup, reorganise”.

I would like to encourage the submission of works that encapsulate the mood of resistance, that critique, satirise or provide comment on our current political situation and/or celebrate the notion of living boldly and unapologetically.I am particularly interested in works that evoke a spirit of disruption with their visual language - Leyla Reynolds

The curatorial selection will explore works that engage with varied political themes spanning inequality, migration, climate change and gender identity, and our ability to reject, regroup and organise whilst faced with an increasingly challenging political landscape. The 2020 Bow Open Show is only open to artists who currently hold a studio or affordable housing with Bow Arts, or those who are working with our Education Department. To apply, please click here.
